"Nonrev" is an airline industry term for non-revenue. It refers to a passenger traveling on an aircraft and not producing revenue for the carrier—usually an employee using flight benefits. The Nonrev Network was a social network that allowed airline employees from around the world to connect with one another and share travel information. I sold the Nonrev Network to a former Southwest Airline IT executive in February of 2010.
The site was XHTML compliant and the layout was all CSS. All pages were PHP and utilized multiple includes for header, footer, navigational components and advertisements. The navigation also used php to mark the style "current" to show the user's location within the site based on the current url.
Hotel, car rental and condominium reservations were through an affiliate partner. The site footer and header were uploaded to the affiliate for a seamless integration. A CNAME on the server pointed to the affiliate url effectively hiding the actual url from the user.
Invision Power Board was selected for the community software because its enhanced profile gave many social networking features. The "skin" was modified to incorporate the site header to be consistent with the site design. Several modifications were added to provide additional features.
At its peak the site received about 100,000 page views and 10,000 unique visitors monthly.
